Wildlife exploration

Amazing variety, from small to large

Experiences

Exploring the wildlife in the area of the Danube Delta is among the favorite activities of visitors, from the usual tourist to professional photographers who come here especially for birdwatching, attracted by the wide variety of bird species.

One of the symbols of the Danube Delta and at the same time the largest bird living in this area, with a wingspan of more than 3 meters, the pelican is one of the camera favorites, together with the majestic white-tailed eagle or the graceful swan, but also smaller birds, such as the kingfisher or the European roller with their special colorful plumage can be captured in equally beautiful pictures. Last but not least, one can also go fishing in the sea, mostly for round goby, horse mackerel or grey mullet.

But the wildlife of these places is not only about birds, it is also about the Delta’s horses, roaming free through the local forests. With a bit of luck, visitors can also spot rodent species such as the muskrat or the nutria, turtles, rabbits and even deers. Last but not least, at the mouth of the Danube arms, playful dolphins can sometimes be observed accompanying the tourist boats.
